Chronicle of Higher Ed: Partnerships Link U.S. & Iraqi Universities

We’re just about one week shy of a year since Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki announced the Iraq Education Initiative at AED in July 2009, which signaled his government’s commitment to focus on improving the country’s education system after years of war and dictatorship.

Within that year, AED and its partners have helped rebuild Iraq’s universities with a number of programs funded by the Iraqi and U.S. governments alike. Of those, the U.S.-Iraqi University Linkages Program was just launched this June, and was featured in the Chronicle of Higher Education. Through it, AED partners Iraqi universities with American ones to review their curricula, develop online courses, help with exchange programs, and more.
