AED Hosts Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital

Today wraps up the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital’s series of workshops on global advocacy, hosted in AED’s new space,  Idea:Exchange. The three-part series was designed to teach teen girls about global issues connected to the Millennium Development Goals and empower them to effect change using a variety of advocacy tools. After the workshops, the girls will participate in an advocacy training where they take what they’ve learned and utilize a range of tools to make a difference.

Workshop Topics:

  • Millennium Development Goals/Global Issues Overview & Technology and Global Development
  • Economic Empowerment and Environmental Sustainability
  • Health in the Developing World

The participants also had the chance to walk through AED’s current exhibit on youth-led photography around the world, titled The Way We See It.

The participants also put together a video about their commitment to the Millennium Development Goals. Watch it at http://gscnc.wordpress.com/2010/08/02/girl-scouts-stand-up-for-poverty/.
