Nutrition Program Launches Online Video Contest
by the We Can! team
Five years ago the National Institutes of Health launched their Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity and Nutrition, or We Can! ® project to help youth between the ages 8 and 13 maintain a healthy weight.
This summer, AED worked with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s We Can! team to launch a series of activities celebrating the program’s success. One of these activities was a first-ever video contest.
Several community sites and partners stepped up to the video camera to display their creativity through 30- or 60-second videos, while simultaneously promoting We Can!’’s three core messages: improving food choices; increasing physical activity; and reducing screen time. The results have been great!
Currently, there are nine finalist videos up for public vote on the project’s Facebook page. You can help We Can! select the winner by voting for your favorit.
Follow these simple instructions:
- Visit the We Can! Facebook page
- “Like” We Can! on Facebook, if you haven’t done so already
- Click the We Can!’ video tab
- View all nine video contest entries by double-clicking on their icons
- Vote for your favorite video by clicking “like.” Videos should be judged using the following criteria:
- Message and appropriateness to the key themes of We Can! : healthy eating; increased physical activity; and reduced screen time.
- Creativity and originality
- Overall presentation
- Share the videos with your friends and family and encourage them to vote.
The community site submitting the winning video will receive $1,500 for their programming, and their video will be prominently displayed on the We Can! web site and Facebook page.
So make your voice heard and vote for the community site with the best video!
