Mobile Library Combines Fun and Learning in Jordan

Children enjoyed fun activities at a recent Drive to Read event promoting literacy in Jordan.

More than 200 children and their families from Khreibet El-Souq community in Jordon turned out earlier this month for a day of face painting, balloon shaping, and reading as part of the Drive to Read program’s efforts to promote literacy.

Youth gather in front of the Drive to Read to truck to enjoy a book together.

At the event, underprivileged children who have limited access to reading materials were given the opportunity to explore the program’s mobile library. Games, crafts, and even water balloons were all part of the day, which was designed to get the children excited about reading.

The program’s “bookmobile” regularly visits parks, schools, and community centers in high-needs areas of Amman to build a “reading culture” among young people between the ages of six and 12 years old. The book mobile is equipped with over 2000 Arabic and English books and acts as a magnet for families in search of interesting and fun activities to do.

Drive to Read is supported from Greater Amman Municipality and the Ministry of Culture.
