Research shows that good teachers are the most important element in student learning. So how do you make great teachers—teachers for a new era?

Working with Carnegie Corporation of New York and the Ford and Annenberg Foundations, AED used data to uncover areas of teacher preparation that need improvement while driving achievement among k-12 students, an approach that required a new emphasis on evidence. AED’s efforts built strong working relationships between TNE institutions and their k-12 partners, enabling them to track teacher candidates and graduates from their teaching programs as well as the pupils they subsequently taught. The result was improved teacher preparation during the college years and high-quality professional development support afterward.
